Nature for our well-being: Wholefood based nutritional support. The next best thing to Fruit and Veg!
Numerous scientific studies show that a good diet, based on fruits, vegetables and starchy foods, combined with a good lifestyle, can help improve and maintain our health over time.
The World Health Organisation remind us that we could stay healthier for longer if we took more care of our nutrition, following a diet mainly based on fruits and vegetables and starchy foods; and have therefore recommended, as part of their dietary advice: "5 a Day", 5 portions of fruits and vegetables every day. Recently many health organisations have suggested this should be even more, with 7 portions/day now being the minimum recommended, and up to 13 portions/day being the ideal. Traditionally this has included fruit juices as one of the portions, but Health professionals in the UK believe these should not be included, as juices contain large amounts of sugar which increases appetite by increasing insulin production, thereby creating a problem in itself. It is better to eat the whole fruit.
Unfortunately not many of us consume enough fruit and vegetables, certainly not every day. The average consumption of fruit and vegetables across Europe is less than half the recommended intake. Large fruit intake carries with it a large sugar intake, and large amounts of vegetables make many feel bloated and uncomfortable, let alone are expensive to buy fresh fruit and vegetables daily. Interestingly, frozen fruit and vegetables often contain more vitamins than fresh. This is because they're frozen on the day they're picked, while fresh produce can take as much as two weeks to reach our supermarket shelves. After picking, the amount of vitamins will decrease each day.
There are a number of possible brands available, for example Total Nutri-greens Tablets from MyProtein.com, but the product backed by the most scientific research and also quality of production is JuicePlus. Probably wrongly named as its not a juice, Juice Plus is an easy way to add good nutrition to the diet. It should not be seen as an alternative but more a supplement to help achieve the maximum benefit from a diet rich in fruit and vegetables. It is only available online, and will not be available on the high street. Children are supplied free (please see website for details)
